Our Story

The journey of Hear Me Roar started 5 years ago with the arrival of twins - a new niece and nephew to spoil! Shopping for a boy and a girl of the same age was an exciting experience that consistently ended in disappointment. Retailers' clothes for boys project confidence and strength, whereas girls' clothes focus on beauty and gentle kindness.

Studies show that by age 6, girls avoid situations for children who are "really, really smart" and are even less likely to associate other girls as "really, really smart."

In the The Confidence Code, Claire Shipman and Katty Kay found that between the ages of 8 and 14, "girls' confidence levels drop by 30%."

Ypulse added to this data to show that "as girls & boys move through their teen years and into early adulthood, "girls never catch up to their male peers."

We could not find clothing brands that projected the type of positive messages we want for our girls - so we did it ourselves!

Hear Me Roar is a WOC-owned small business here to bridge this gap in self-esteem and encourage our girls to have the confidence that you can achieve anything!
